As it is known, some workplaces were physically closed due to the Covid-19 virus epidemic or a remote / rotational working model was applied, therefore, data controllers did not work on preparing personal data processing inventory. With the decision of the Personal Data Protection Board dated 23/06/2020 and numbered 2020/482, real and legal person data controllers with an annual number of employees more than 50 or an annual financial balance sheet total of more than 25 million TL, and real and legal persons residing abroad it was decided to postpone the period determined for the responsible persons to fulfill the registration obligation to 30.09.2020.

Although there is an opinion by the public that this date will be extended again, the period was not extended by the Board, and a Public Announcement on the Obligation to Register to the Registry was published on 01.10.2020.

Considering that some data controllers could not fulfill the registration obligation to the Registry within the scope of combating COVID-19, the Board determined that there are data controllers who did not apply to the Data Controllers Registry Information System (VERBIS) or who did not complete their notification although they applied. With its decision dated 01.10.2020 and numbered 2020/760, it has decided to notify the data controllers who have not fulfilled their registration obligation in a letter.

It was stated that the data controllers who were notified in writing by the Board must immediately fulfill the obligation to register in the Registry.

This period is not a postponement, but a last right granted to data controllers. For those who cannot complete the registration process until the last day due to the corona virus (Covid-19) pandemic, those who miss the registration period due to technical or actual problems, the Board, the Ministry of Treasury and the Ministry of Finance, those who do not get their password or who cannot complete the registration process despite getting their password. He will send a notification and with this notification, he will give an additional period of thirty days at most, and will notify that a penalty will be applied to those who do not complete the registration process.
